Ivan's Story
I hope my old high school friends remember me as outgoing and fun to be around. High school was a good time.
Fishing teaches a LOT of patience. I think most adults have too little of it...
The crazies thing I ever did in high school was as a Senior sitting behind Susie Garrteson rolling a fat one in Ms. Wilsons class...Young and dumb...
As my professional career has grown my family and I have moved from Alabama, to North Carolina to Mississippi and now to West Virginia. Would I do it over? Yes. Although we all go through trials and tribulations life has been good for us. We have been very fortunate.
We have 2 great sons and have adopted 2 "Mutts" We have really taken to dottie and lady. Hell ,they are part of the family.
What I have learned as a parent is love is unconditional. While fishing will teach you great patience, kids will equally test it!
If I could see an old teacher it would have to be Mrs. Paul - my DECA teacher. Mrs Paul got me excited about learning and helped me gain an insight into business. She gave me tools that I still use today.
College was different for me. I joined the service to get money to pay for school. When I got out of the service I started ESJC. I stayed their 2 years getting an AA. I tried the workforce for a few yearts and realiz...Expand for more
ed the level of education was not enough. Plus I liked to tinker with computers and stuff. I went to Wallace in Dothan and earned my AAS in Industrial Electronics. This made for a great start in manufacturing. Along the way I completed my BS in Comp Sci. and have been programming and building automated equipment ever since. Sometimes I wonder what the whole living on campus experience would have been like. I still have my 2 boys who I can live through vicariously...
I love working in manufacturing. I am exrtremely thankfull to have worked with some amazing people. I currently work in the medical devices industry making replacement cataract lenses. Saving and improving eyesight throughout the world is so cool.
If I had one "do over" I would have never smoked weed. The weed thing took me a few years to outgrow and definately put me behind the 8 ball. I have been over that for quite some time and have been a better person for it.
My first job was at Western Auto where I got paid 2.10 p/hr to assemble bikes, mowers, stock shelves and check out customers. What I remember most about it is learning I liked tinkering with stuff..
A not-good childhood memory I will not forget is when Chip (a kid in 7th grade Gym class) collapsed and died while we were doing calesthenics.
